Back in the balmy days of spring we introduced our new Daffodil Yellow Favor Ribbons and used a marigold grow kit as the demo wedding favor. If you’ve been reading our blog for awhile you know that we love to test out the favors in our demo photos, and this cute marigold kit was no exception. After the photoshoot, the marigold kit was put to use!
Photo #1 is of day one, when we planted the seeds. All it took was the contents of the kit, some water, and a sunny shelf to get it growing. Photo #2 shows the first green tendrils poking out of the soil five days later.
Photo #3 shows the progress after just over five weeks, when the plant had really filled in with green! Photo #4 shows the first little blossom, a few days short of 3 months after we planted the seed.
We had hoped to have an outdoor photo to show after we transplanted the flower, but…. tragedy struck! The whole plant got eaten by unknown insect marauders the night we got it into the ground :( We’d like to think it would have thrived if we’d had a better marigold safety plan in place.

We just had to share this cute summer favor idea before we set sail for the weekend! It’s challenging to find wedding favors that your guests will want to use year-round, especially if your wedding has a season-specific theme like sailing. But, thanks to some amazing etsy crafters, we’ve found nautical favor inspiration that really floats our boat!
We cast our net wide looking for the perfect favor components and found them from a bakery supply shop and talented fabric crafter; proof that you don’t have to stay anchored to the results of a “wedding favors” search! The beautifully handcrafted sailboat cookie cutter (with a delicious sugar cookie recipe included) comes from Baker’s Bling, and the 6.5″ x 8.5″ sailboat-patterned bag was made by The Red Bobbin. It came complete with the lovely faux-scrimshaw sailboat button we used to decorate the center of the bow. We personalized this favor with our Set Sail Favor Ribbon in burgundy to coordinate with the color accents on the favor bag.

Our resident design diva whipped up these suitably regal monogrammed napkins for our royal wedding watching party, and we just had to share how lovely they are. We’ll be wiping up our champagne splashes and cupcake crumbs in style!
We know you’ve missed it, and we’ve missed it too, antique lilac ribbon is back today! It’s one of those hard to describe colors — a pastel purple with a touch of grey, somewhere on the color wheel near lavender and mauve — but it’s also one of our prettiest, and we were sad to see it (temporarily) go.
